Airport Leaders Reveal Planned Changes To Benefit Travelers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Charlotte City Council members have a better idea of what airport leaders are doing to making traveling easier.

Charlotte-Douglas Airport officials told Council Tuesday night that they plan to build new parking decks, move rental cars closer to the terminal, add pick-up and drop-off lanes and upgrade baggage claim to cut down on lost luggage.

Leaders are also trying to rework the taxi service to make it more modern, uniform and efficient.

"Cabs are not up to par, not safe, not clean, and some people are being overcharged because equipment isn't working," CouncilmanWarren Turner said.

In all, Charlotte-Douglas is planning $300 million in improvements, without using taxpayer dollars. Airport leaders said the facility makes enough money to pay for the costs.
