Alexander County 2-Year-Old Dies After Being Run Over

A grandfather accidentally ran over his 2-year-old grandson in Alexander County on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy died at the hospital a short time later.

Authorities said the child’s grandparents were looking after him at their home on Bumgarner Hollow Drive. They said his grandmother took her eyes off him for just a second and the boy slipped out the door shortly after 1 p.m.

At that same moment, the boy’s grandfather was backing his pickup truck up the driveway to unload an air compressor. He did not see the 2-year-old and hit him.

Authorities said they don’t believe any charges will be filed.
