Autopsy Says Baby Killed In North Charlotte Was Stabbed In The Neck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

An autopsy report obtained by Eyewitness News on Monday shows a newborn baby found dead in a plastic bag had been stabbed in her neck.

The baby’s mother, Ester Flores, faces murder charges in her child’s death.

According to the narrative on the autopsy, Flores gave birth to Esmerelda Garcia Flores at her home on Blythe Ridge Court on May 19, and then left the newborn in a plastic grocery bag in the bathroom. Paramedics were called to the home and took Ester Flores to the hospital for bleeding, where it was discovered she had recently given birth. Emergency workers went back to the home and found the baby in the bathroom.

The autopsy states the child’s was just one minute old when she was stabbed as many as seven times in the neck. It doesn’t say what sort of weapon was used, only that the child bled to death.

The report also states the baby’s lungs had air in them, indicated the child had breathed on her own.

Just last week prosecutors announced that they would not seek the death penalty in this case.

The mother, Ester Flores, turns 21 years old later this week. She remains in the Mecklenburg County jail.
