Be an engineer in Tech City

HICKORY, N.C. —

Solve real-world problems that engineers face in Catawba Science Center’s (CSC) new exhibit – Tech City – opening in Carpenter Hall on Saturday, September 17.

This interactive exhibit, geared toward youth ages 8 to 13 and their families, invites visitors to learn about engineering processes as they design, build, test and modify. Tech City also promotes engineering as a problem-solving process and encourages youth to consider careers in the field.

Clean water using a hydraulic system, design a landscaping environment to protect a windy, lakeshore park, build a gravity dam, optimize traffic flow, test structures to see if they will withstand the force of an earthquake, experiment with sound, produce recordings and more. A play zone for younger visitors features a colorful car and track construction set.

Admission is free for CSC members and children younger than 3. Admission for adults is $7 and $5 for youth (3 to 18), seniors, college students and active military with current ID.
