While Bob brings his love of weather into his broadcasts, he is equally as passionate about nature, music, and art in his life. What drew him to Rapid City was his passion for the Native American flute, the Lakota tribal heartland, and intense beauty/nature of the Black Hills and Badlands. Not only does Bob regularly perform and record his flute music, but he makes all of the flutes he plays. According to him, the flute music, nature, and weather just naturally go together.
Bob has spent most of his life in North Carolina, now back in Charlotte with his family. He graduated from Woodberry Forest School and attended UNC Chapel Hill on a Morehead Scholarship. Though his science studies included climatology and meteorology, he was not anticipating then that his ‘path’ was going to lead him into TV meteorology. From years as a science school teacher, a professional photographer, an actor with Screen Actors Guild, and much more, Bob has enjoyed myriad unique experiences that ultimately led him to taking his knowledge and talents to the airwaves. He also urges everyone to adopt their pets from any of the area animal shelters (his rescue pup Mercy asked him to include the last line.)
