Police: Burglar breaks natural gas line during break-in

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

During a north Charlotte home break-in, a burglar accidentally broke a natural gas line at the home, police said.

When the woman who lives in the West 26th Street house returned home around 1 a.m. on Monday, she found her TV and VCR had been stolen. She also discovered her natural gas was off.

Hazmat crews and Piedmont Natural Gas were able to fix the break and restore her gas.

The burglar likely broke in through the bathrooom window, the woman said.

The victim was on vacation at the time of the break-in.  She said she is deaf and would not have been able to hear the burglar had she been home.

It is unclear when the burglary actually happened.
