Burke County Man Accused Of Shooting Stepson

 

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. —

Police charged a man in connection with a shooting in Burke County on Wednesday night.

Deputies charged 55-year-old Robert Smith with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Investigators said he shot his stepson, 34-year-old Kevin Brittain, after accusing him of stealing items out of his home.

The shooting happened at Ridgecreek Drive, south of Morganton.

Brittain is out of the hospital. He was only hit by one of the pellets from the shotgun blast.
