Burke County Middle School Placed Under Lockdown

Walter Johnson Middle School was put on a modified lockdown Wednesday after a teacher spotted two men who appeared to be carrying guns running into a wooded area behind the school.

The assistant superintendent said the school, which is located in Morganton on Lenoir Road, was put under lockdown at 11 a.m.

Students were not allowed outside of the building until dismissal.

The teacher saw the men while walking to the school’s parking lot.

Police searched for the men, but were never able to find them or confirm that they had weapons.
