Charlotte Man Shot In Driveway; Search Is On For Shooter

CHARLOTTE —

The Carmel Station community is a small South Charlotte neighborhood, virtually free of noise and traffic.

But on Saturday morning, homeowners on Virginian Lane were out talking.

Neighbor John Fayh woke up to hear two gun shots.

"And followed quickly thereafter with cries of, 'Help, help me, help me,'" Fayh said.

Police said just after 3 a.m., Manuel Murillo II, 38, was robbed and shot multiple times in his driveway, just as he returned from work.

He survived the shots to his chest, but went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Murillo's father said his son was in intensive care.

The shooting put neighbors on edge. Jeff Crady thought what he heard this morning was someone hunting in the woods.

"That's what? One hundred yards from my house," he said. He said he moved to the neighborhood to avoid crime.

“When it gets close to home, it really makes you think. There's no place safe anymore,” Crady said.

The neighborhood has had no reports of violent crime this year, and only four minor incidents reported since January.
