A man who grew up in Charlotte now has one of the most important jobs rarely talked about. He spends almost every day with the president of the United States, handling everything from scheduling meetings to hitting the basketball court with the commander in chief.
At 6 feet 5 inches, Reggie Love is hard to miss when he walks in a room. He's right at home in the east wing of the White House.
It’s a place he never imagined he'd work.
"It kind of gets to you a little bit. You think, ‘Wow, who ever thought you'd be here?’” he said.
At just 27, he has what could be one of the most important jobs in the country.
"I am special assistant to the president and personal aide," he said.
He doesn't get involved in policy or politics, but his job description is vast. He helps the president prepare for appearances -- "Whether it's remarks, or just figuring out if we need to use a prompter or not" – schedule appointments – “Go to the dentist or get a haircut, I sort of figure out what's a good time" -- or just go to dinner -- "Something as simple as showing up on a Saturday night when the president or first lady are going to go out."
He's the president's go-to guy, but he said his roots are firmly in Charlotte.

Reggie Love Talks About His Life Working For Obama
Love played basketball at Providence Day School and then at Duke, where he also played football.
But it was an internship for then-Sen. Barrack Obama that led him to Capitol Hill.
"It seems like every day there's a new first. It's been pretty exciting," he said.
Love has traveled the world, spending 24 days a month with the commander in chief. And he said they’ve grown close.
“He always jokes with me, and says, ‘You know, you're young enough to be my son. So I think he's definitely been a mentoring figure, but at the same time, he's still my boss."
When Eyewitness News asked what might surprise people about his boss, basketball came back into the conversation.
"He's a leftie, but he loves to go right. I don't know what that's about, but the guy's got a strong left hand, but he loves, loves to drive right-handed,” Love said.
Love tries to make it back to Charlotte when he can, and he said there are some things at home that Washington just can't match.
"Where are the places you just have to go when you come back home?” asked Eyewitness News anchor Natalie Pasquarella.
“Without a doubt, the first thing I’ve got to do is go to Bojangle’s. I’ve got to get some sweet tea, some seasoned fries," he said.
But for now, he's happy and very busy right where he is.
He said the Queen City is in his future, though.
As for time off, Love said there a no off-days built into his schedule. He said when the president did take a family trip to Martha's Vineyard, he had four days off, which he used to watch TiVo and movies at his apartment.
