CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A construction worker was taken to the hospital after an accident in uptown Charlotte.

The man injured his leg around 3 p.m. where the new Wachovia building is being built at Church and First streets.

MEDIC officials said they used a small mobile vehicle they had just a block away at the Food Lion Speed Street Festival to get to the construction site.

The construction worker was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rescuers credit their presence at Speed Street with their quick response.
