Crash Sends Car Down 50-Foot Embankment

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

MEDIC rushed two people to the hospital after an overnight crash in the University area that sent a car crashing down an embankment.

Police said the driver of an SUV was turning when she crashed into a car. The impact of the crash sent the car careening down a 50-foot embankment and trapped the driver.

The crash happened just after 3 a.m. Friday on W.T. Harris Boulevard at University City Boulevard.

A passer-by jumped down the embankment and tried to help before police got to the scene; he said he just happened to see the brake lights.

Officers said the two drivers suffered neck and spinal injuries, but are expected to live.
