Deputies: Traffic stop leads to arrest of man wanted for failing to register as sex offender

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. —

A man who was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender was arrested after a traffic stop in Lincoln County, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Van Williams, 45, was arrested after a traffic stop for a vehicle without a light on the license plate. The Sheriff’s Office said he had been wanted since July 2010 on an outstanding warrant for failure to verify an address change within 10 days, as required by law.

Williams was sitting in the backseat and told the officer he did not have any identification with him and said his name was Maurice Williams, the Sheriff’s Office said. He later gave his real name and was served with warrants charging him with failure to verify an address by a sex offender and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.

The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Brandon Little, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon. The charges stemmed from officers finding a firearm under the seat in Little's vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
