Another Charlotte highway has another set of lights that are not working.
We found a row of lights out along Independence Boulevard closest to Uptown. We're told roughly 40 lights were out and that about 20 still are not working.
One driver, Anita Frazee, said, "[For how] many accidents as there already are, it just prevents that many more if they have light the road."
State road officials blame shorts in the wiring and drivers who hit light poles. They said crews are tracing the problem back to its source this week and next. Crews plan to fix the lights by Christmas.
Eyewitness News has documented outages along Charlotte highways for years. Drivers complained and politicians blamed Raleigh. Finally, road crews started fixing the lights. Then, the ones on Independence Boulevard went out.
NCDOT spokesperson Jen Thompson said, "You want to try to get everything done on one end, and then you might have to leave and go take care of something else."
