SALISBURY, N.C. —
Dozens of people are gathered in downtown Salisbury in support of the gay community.
They are having the event despite Salisbury's mayor deciding not to proclaim June 23, "Pride Day."
WSOC-TV spoke with police, who said they are expecting 2,000 people throughout the day.
At a council meeting on Tuesday, someone gave Mayor Woodson, who won't allow the city to officially have "Pride Day," a pair of rainbow boxers.
Woodson said he won't issue proclamations connected to any controversy, political or personal point of view.
