Elderly Woman Killed By Son, Police Say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police believe a man robbed his mother and then bludgeoned her to death inside her North Charlotte home Monday morning.

Officers are searching for 56-year-old Jerry Allen Heath. Police said he killed 83-year-old Annie Sutton Heath at 1139 Geraldine Powe Drive, which is near Oaklawn.

Police have two warrants out for his arrest, one for armed robbery and one for murder.

Investigators said the woman refused to give her son money, so he robbed her. They believe that he became enraged and bludgeoned her to death.

The victim’s daughter called police to check on the welfare of her mother, officers said. That’s when they discovered the crime.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Capt. Bruce Bellamy said neighbors are not in danger, but should be careful.

“We encourage the community to exercise caution,” Bellamy said.

If you have any information that could help police find Heath, call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
