'Extreme Makeover' Family Presented With Check From Fundraisers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Surprises for one Charlotte family just keep coming.

Eyewitness News cameras were there as the King family was given a check for more than $35,000 Tuesday. The money came from fundraisers while the family was away on vacation as the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” crew built their new house on Sudbury Road in east Charlotte.

JED Development and American Heartland Builders presented the check. Alesia King said the two companies helped her family out a lot.

“They just gave time and effort and put a great deal of beauty into this home,” she said. “You can tell they took time and wanted it to be something special.”

The King family has been in their new home for just a little more than a week.

The episode telling their story is expected to air on ABC sometime in October.
