Families May Have To Pay For DNA Tests In Gaston County Cemetery Case

DNA tests may be required to determine whose remains were unearthed at a Gaston County cemetery.

Authorities say the bones were dug up by a caretaker who was trying to get dirt to fill in sunken places. Both he and the owner face charges.

Gaston County police said they found 20 to 25 bones. They said people hoping to claim their loved one’s remains need to have plot information to show who was buried in the spot where the bones were dug up.

Then family members will probably have to pay for DNA tests to see if the bones belong to their relative.

Police said a Charlotte funeral home has volunteered to give the bones a proper burial.
