CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Investigators say it was an electric problem that sparked a fire at an East Charlotte home Sunday left a family of 10 without a home.

Firefighters said eight children and their parents escaped a house fire on Olde Creek Trail. A 4-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital with burns to her feet, authorities said.

Neighbors said they rushed to the scene after hearing screams and seeing smoke coming from the home.

Fire investigators said damage to the home is estimated at about $20,000.

It took 27 firefighters 23 minutes to get the fire under control.

The Red Cross is helping the parents and their children.
