FBI, CMPD Looking For Bank Robbery Suspect

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Investigators are at an east Charlotte apartment complex after a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent fired shots at a bank robbery suspect.

Part of Independence Boulevard at Krefeld Drive, just outside the McAlpine Ridge apartments, is blocked as officers look for Taj Pittman, who is wanted on state and federal warrants for bank robberies. The FBI said an agent fired his weapon at about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, but no one was hurt.

The FBI said Pittman bonded out of the Cabarrus County Jail on Tuesday. Agents won’t say whether Pittman was being served warrants or if he lives at the complex.

Pittman has not been taken into custody. Investigators with the FBI and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are looking for him.

“He should be considered armed and dangerous,” said FBI spokeswoman Amy Thoreson.

Pittman is 5-feet-7-inches tall and about 220 pounds. He has a scorpion tattoo on the left side of his neck. Anyone who sees him is asked to call police.
