Fire Damages Bar Near Appalachian State University

BOONE, N.C. —

A bar near Appalachian State University caught fire late Thursday.

The blaze at the Boone Saloon on U.S. 421 began just after 11:30 p.m. Police said a band was performing when the fire started, but the 75 to 90 people inside the bar were able to make it out safely.

Fire officials praised both the management and the band for getting everyone outside.

Investigators said they believe the fire was accidental and started near the rear of the building in an office.

Officials said the fire heavily damaged the back of the building, affecting both the bar and the tattoo shop below.
