CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Just before 2 a.m., dispatchers got a call about a fire at a commercial building on Sharon Amity Road. It started at Charlotte Behavioral Health Associates, firefighters said.
A night manager was making rounds when he saw smoke through the windows and called 911.
It took nearly 50 firefighters more than an hour to put out the fire. They tried to limit the damage to other nearby businesses, but the flames spread very quickly.
"That was the challenge here overnight, to finally extinguish the fire that had reached the roof and attic," fire Capt. Rob Brisley said.
Despite their attempts, Saussy Burbank also suffered some smoke damage.
Firefighters did not immediately say what caused the fire, or how much damage it caused.
Part of Sharon Amity Road had to be shut down overnight but it was reopened in the early-morning hours.
