CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The fire at 300 East Boulevard started in the chimney and spread to the attic, firefighters said.
They responded to the fire just after 2:30 Monday morning, and had to knock on the door to wake up some of the residents.
The house had been converted into four apartments, and all five people living inside made it out safely, fire officials said.
Officials estimate about $150,000 in damage.
The American Red Cross helped those residents find a place to stay.
