Foreclosure Assistance Fair Draws Hundreds On First Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

People traveled to Charlotte from across the nation for the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America fair, which began Thursday morning and runs through Monday, Dec. 7.

The fair is at The Park on Independence Boulevard.

The event is part of NACA’s Save the Dream tour.

NACA has contracts with major lenders like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and offers free services to homeowners facing foreclosure. It helps homeowners reduce interest rates and mortgage payments.

A line formed outside The Park on Wednesday night. People brought tents, sofas and blankets to stay warm while waiting for the event to begin.

Some attendees are already reporting success stories.

Kelly Gonzalez came all the way from California after missing the NACA seminar held there.

“It was so worth it,” she said. “We’re now saving $1,300 and we got a really low interest rate, from 6.25 to 3.25.”

Counselors will be available at the fair from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day.

The newest numbers for Mecklenburg County show there were more than 1,000 foreclosures in November.

That is the lowest number for the county since March. One year ago, though, there were just 362 foreclosures.

If you’re facing foreclosure but can’t make it to the NACA fair, contact one of the following counseling agencies for help.

North Carolina Housing Finance Agency 1-800-393-0988
