Fourth Grader Arrested For Bringing Gun To School

Another Classmate Informed Teachers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The parent of every child at Briarwood Elementary got an automated phone message this afternoon informing a fourth grader brought a gun and bullets to school today. CMS officials say another classmate saw the nine year old playing with bullets and immediately told a teacher's assistant. She took the bullets from the student and discovered the boy also had a gun.

Christian Pulido's brother is a kindergartner at Briarwood. He says, "it's just surprising cause if it was loaded he could have shot someone because the kid didn't know what he was doing. He could kill himself or kill another student."

Dr. Jane Robinson is a family counselor and says parents have to talk to their child whenever an incident like this happens. "The child is not only dealing with the scary situation of bullets and a gun, but also the fact this might be my friend. And so now what do i do? I could get my friend in trouble," she points out.

Counselors will be available Thursday and Friday at Briarwood elementary in case parents or students need to talk. That student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and police are investigating to see if this child's parents will be charged.
