A private funeral service will be held this weekend for Phylicia Barnes, the Monroe teenager whose body was found in a Maryland river.
The service will be held Saturday in Conyers, Ga.
Barnes, 16, went missing in late December while visiting family in Baltimore. Her body was discovered in a river outside Baltimore last month.
Investigators have not yet said how Barnes died.
The teenager’s family members said in a statement that they would like to thank Barnes’ “school family, law enforcement and the thousands of people that have expressed sympathies following her untimely demise.”
“The family of Phylicia Simone Barnes wishes to thank everyone that contributed to her search and ultimate recovery,” the statement also said. “They would also ask that we continue to pray and search for the scores of other citizens who continue to be classified as ‘missing.’”
