Head-On Collision Kills One, Critically Injures Another In Cabarrus County

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. —

One person was killed in a head-on crash in Cabarrus County late Sunday. The Highway Patrol originally said that two people were killed.

Troopers said 25-year-old Gary Metheny is charged with second-degree murder and driving while impaired for the collision, which happened on Sapp Road just north of the intersection with Irish Potato Road around 7:30 p.m.

According to the Highway Patrol, Metheny's vehicle crossed the center line and hit the sport utility vehicle driven by 61-year-old Terry Sifford. Sifford died and his wife, Mary Sifford, remains in intensive care at NorthEast Medical Center

Metheny is being held without bond at the Cabarrus County jail.
