Heavy Delays Don't Phase LYNX Fans

PINEVILLE, N.C. —

Saturday tens of thousands took a ride on the LYNX Light Rail in Charlotte, but the heavy turnout lead to some chaos for early riders.

CATS officials estimate 60,250 riders experienced the Lynx from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

These large crowds caused delays along the LYNX line and thousands of riders were left waiting at the South Boulevard and I-485 Station in Pineville for an estimated one to two hours before a northbound train was available to take them home.

CATS officials tried to lessen the wait time by bringing in CATS buses to transport riders back to their starting points.

CATS still has one more day to get things right before the start of the work week.

The LYNX will run until 1 a.m. tonight. And will run through midnight Sunday.

The ride will be free for passengers Sunday, but come Monday expect to pay $1.30 each way.
