CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The 27-year-old female teacher at Hopewell High School in Huntersville is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.
“It’s deeply disturbing any time you have allegations that are this serious, where a child has been harmed or we believe a child has been harmed – it’s deeply concerning,” said CMS Spokeswoman Nora Carr.
The teacher hasn't been charged with a crime so school officials are saying little and Eyewitness News had decided not to release the woman’s name. Carr said the district did a background check on the teacher before hiring her in 2004, but nothing was found that would make them concerned.
According to a search warrant, the student's father told police earlier this month that he had evidence of the relationship between his daughter and the teacher. He told authorities he recorded his daughter’s phone conversations with the teacher and found that the two were talking about their sexual relationship.
The search warrant also states that since the relationship began, the girl “has become withdrawn from the family and started cutting herself severely.”
Eyewitness News went to the teacher’s home to ask for her response to the allegations, but no one answered the door.
