Huntersville Home Invasion Worries Neighbors

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. —

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigators are continuing their search for two men who robbed a man inside of his home in northern Mecklenburg County.

The robbery happened Friday night at a home on Autumncrest Road. The 57-year-old victim told police two men forced their way inside his home, assaulted and restrained him, officers said. The intruders stole money, a gun, some electronics and his 2007 Chevy Silverado, police said.

Police said they later found the stolen truck on Bay Back Court, a dead-end street in a Concord subdivision.

Eyewitness News reached out to the victim by phone, but he did not want to talk about the incident. Mandy Self, who lives nearby, said the crime disrupted the normally peaceful neighborhood.

“It's very scary,” she said. “You don't think (crime) is going to come out here.”

The neighborhood, located on the outskirts of Huntersville, is a low-crime area, according to CMPD. Between Jan. 1 and Aug. 29, only six incidents were reported to police within a half-mile radius of the Autumncrest Road home invasion.

Despite the low numbers, the recent break-in was enough to put neighbors on alert.

“I have a 5-year-old, and she's not allowed to go outside now,” Self said. “I don't know what's next out here.”

Investigators said they collected evidence from the victim's stolen truck that may help them locate the robbers, but did not elaborate on what that evidence was.
