Jury To Begin Deliberating In Lisa Greene Trial

CONCORD, N.C. —

The fate of a mother accused of killing her two children is now in the hands of a jury.

After 14 weeks, the Lisa Greene murder trial is finally coming to an end. Greene is accused of setting her Midland home on fire in January 2006, killing her two children.

Just as she did in the early stages of the trial, Greene spent the last few days sobbing through the closing arguments.

The prosecution showed pictures of the children in their bedroom after they died as they stressed that Greene admitted to purposely killing 8-year-old Addison and 10-year-old Daniel. The defense argued that a candle tipped over in the children’s room, starting the fire, and said Greene was medicated and under duress when she made the admission.

But prosecutors said the admission wasn’t the only time Greene was inconsistent in her story. They said she changed the story of how the fire started and how she reacted more than 20 times.

The lead prosecutor said just before Greene gave her confession, she told investigators, “I’ll tell you what really happened.”

The jury will be charged first thing Friday. The jurors can convict Greene of anything from first-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter.
