Katrina Evacuees Watch Ernesto

Local evacuees of Hurricane Katrina remembered the damage the storm left behind one year ago in Louisiana.

Tuesday marks the anniversary of the day the hurricane hit the gulf coast. The resulting damage left the entire city of New Orleans underwater and parts of the other gulf states in shambles. The Army Corps of Engineers admitted Saturday only about twenty percent of the levee rebuilding project has been completed in the past year. They said they're not sure if the levees will hold if Tropical Storm Ernesto becomes a hurricane and hits the gulf.

Despite the widespread destruction caused by Katrina, New Orleans native Tony Johnson said Saturday night he still wants to go back home. "My belief is that this only happens once in a lifetime," Johnson said, "it can't happen, shouldn't happen two years in a row." Johnson also said he believes the city can regain its former glory.
