CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Virginia Police Spokeswoman Rene Ball said the three were seen in Norfolk Tuesday evening, boarding a bus bound for Charlotte.
Ashley Long said nothing as police led her into custody. The 20-year-old and her boyfriend, 32-year-old James Snyder, are accused of kidnapping an infant in Virginia and bringing the baby to Charlotte.
"They were taking real good care of the baby, and seemed real devoted to it," said church volunteer Tom Bethune.
Bethune met the couple at Providence United Methodist Church, where they brought 3-month-old Cheyenne Cienewicz Wednesday night.
Long and Snyder were among the 14 people who slept at the church with the "Room at the Inn" program.
"The baby in question slept through the night and was very good," said Bethune. VIDEO: Police Arrest Abductors Of Virginia Infant
Instead, Bethune said Long claimed she was helping the baby by bringing it to Charlotte.
"They were concerned about the baby's safety and felt it was best they kept the baby," he said.
Officials are not saying why the couple ended up in Charlotte.
The baby was taken to the hospital just as a precaution. She is in very good condition.
