Lincoln County Couple Escapes Fire Caused By Space Heater

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. —

A Lincoln County woman opened her bedroom door to see her bed burning as her fiancé slept in it.

Investigators said an electrical fire started the blaze on Noles Circle early Thursday.

Lisa Belton said there was no problem when she got out of bed to go to the bathroom. When she got back to the bedroom, flames were lapping at her fiancé’s head.

He said her screams woke him.

“I think it's a Godsend. If not, then uh . . . who knows,” Kevin Gaddy said.

They both ran from the house as fire spread through the room.

Fire investigators said the couple made a common mistake. They plugged an electrical heater into a power strip, which then overheated the power strip.

This couple said while they lost a lot, they are happy this lesson didn't cost them their lives.
