LINCOLNTON, N.C. —
Deputies arrested 27-year-old Ray Lee Correll of Southmont Road in Iron Station on Saturday. He’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
Lincoln County investigators said a police officer in neighboring Gaston County called them around 11 a.m. Saturday when Correll went into the Gaston Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and asked for counseling because he wanted to kill his wife with a chainsaw.
Investigators said officers also went to the Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln Emergency Room when the hospital reported Correll’s wife, Reace Correll, sought treatment for a minor chainsaw wound.
According to deputies, Correll attacked his wife after he returned home from a party and they got into an argument. They said his parents heard the noise and pulled him off his wife and took the chainsaw.
Reace Correll’s injuries were not serious and she was treated and released from the hospital.
Gaston Memorial Hospital turned Correll over to Lincoln County deputies. Correll is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center without bond.
