Charlotte Primaries Among Elections Set For Tuesday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Three Republicans running for mayor each hope they will be announced as the winner Tuesday night after primary elections in Charlotte.

Martin Davis, John Lassiter and Jack Stratton have been campaigning to run against Democrat Anthony Foxx in November.

There are also five races for Charlotte City Council seats. The candidates for the city council at-large Republican primary are Jerry Drye, Craig Nannini, Edwin Peacock, Jaye Rao, Matthew Ridenhour, Georgia Belk and Tariq Bokhari.

The candidates for the city council at-large Democratic primary are Patrick Cannon, Anthony Castrillon, David Howard, Darrin Rankin, Bob Williams, Raphael Basisa and Susan Burgess.

The candidates for the District 1 Democratic primary are Patsy Kinsey and Owen Sutkowski. In the District 2 Democratic primary are James Mitchell and Aaron Sanders.

Nancy Carter and Darrell Bonapart are competing in the District 5 Democratic primary.

Outside of Charlotte, four people -- Duke Furr, Judy Holcomb, Chuck Horne and Eddy McDaniel – are competing in the Albemarle City Council at-large Democratic primary.

Blondale Funderburk and Charlene McGriff are facing off in the Lancaster County Council District 2 Democratic primary.

In the Fort Lawn Town Council race are Scott Russell and Angel Waits.

There are also two S.C. House primaries. In the District 48 Republican primary are Roger Costner, Ralph Norman and Sam Rhodes. In the Democratic primary for the same district are Kathy Cantrell and Pansy King-Reid.
