RALEIGH, N.C. —

Some residents in North Carolina want the law to change, and they rallied outside the state Capitol on Tuesday to show their support for the use of medical marijuana.

The proposed law would allow residents to possess and use small amounts of pot with a doctor's prescription.

One local supporter of medical marijuana said it is safer than some legal drugs on the market.

Past legislation on the issue has failed in the state.
