Eyewitness News has learned a man charged in a deadly Monday morning accident was released from jail just five days ago.
Billy Neal is just 20 years old and has a lengthy rap sheet. Over the past six months, he's been arrested on numerous reckless driving, drug possession charges and traffic violations.
CMPD has now charged Neal in the deaths of two men in an early morning car crash at the intersection of Idlewild Road and WT Harris Boulevard.
Police told Eyewitness News that Jose and Hugo Aguilar, possibly relatives, were traveling in a Chrysler Intrepid. They say as the driver, Jose Aguilar, made a left turn onto Idlewild, Billy Neal, who was driving a Nissan Xterra, ran a red light and slammed into the victims' car.
Jose and Hugo Aguilar died.
They say the suspect, Neal, took off on foot, then returned to the scene 40 minutes later.
People in the area were stunned to hear about the accident and shocked to learn about Neal's arrest history.
"I think it's really bad. You can't let people out that are dangerous," said Gary Owens.
"He shouldn't be allowed to drive, he shouldn't be allowed to see the break of day again," said Tae Phillips.
According to CMPD, Neal was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of Monday's crash. After his release from the hospital, they plan to arrest him on numerous charges, including felony death by vehicle.
