GREENVILLE, S.C. —

Authorities said a suspect has been shot and killed following a confrontation with officers in the parking lot of the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center.

The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. Monday.

Police said an officer was walking to his car when a man approached him in a threatening manner with what appeared to be a weapon.

Investigators said a sheriff's deputy in his patrol car stepped out to help the officer.

They said the officer and the deputy fired when the man refused to put down what appeared to be a weapon.

The suspect's name has not been released.
