CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
One person was killed in a shooting in west Charlotte Tuesday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
The shooting happened shortly after noon at the 1300 block of Effingham Road, officials said.
According to police, the shooting followed a pre-arranged meeting between the victim and the suspect.
The victim, identified by police as 30-year-old Myron A. Billings, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The victim was apparently shot in the chest, officials said.
Billings died a short time later.
Aroung 3 p.m., police said they found the white Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra they were looking for in connection to the shooting. It was found on the 2600 block of Rose Street, police said. No one was in the car.
Residents said they are concerned about safety in the neighborhood.
"There's something going on all the time," said one resident. "I stay in my home all the time because I'm scared to come out."
