CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

On Wednesday night, 10 Charlotte-area students took the spotlight before the Bobcats game.

It was the eighth annual Do the Right Thing ceremony.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teams up with the fire and police departments to recognize standout students.

One saved a classmate's life with the Heimlich maneuver, while another stopped a student who had a knife.

Another student helped a special needs child who had fallen.

"Too often, it is easy to lifT up the poor choices young people tend to make. This program recognizes the good choices that young people make," said Dr. Heath Morrison.

The 10 winners were picked out of 300 nominees.
