YORK, S.C. —

A bust in York County has landed 13 suspected drug dealers in jail.

Investigators said they've worked for months after dozens of neighbor complaints about drug dealing.

The neighborhood in south York is called the Valley, full of families with small children and, according to some neighbors, rife with drug activity.

“You got a lot of elderly people here -- they're afraid. I'm not,” neighbor Larry Wilform said.

Since this summer, fed-up neighbors have flooded the York Police Department with complaints.

“They didn't feel comfortable coming outside. There were a lot of people that they didn't feel comfortable being around,” said York Police Chief Andy Robinson.

So the department called on county drug agents to investigate, and they said they found bold drug dealers with no shame.

“Most of the dealers were going out to vehicles, selling on the streets,” Robinson said.  “It wasn't like they were trying to hide anything. It was out in the open.”

On Friday, dozens of officers stormed the neighborhood with felony arrest warrants. Officers arrested 13 people, most charged with distributing crack and marijuana.

Neighbors hope this is just the beginning.

“I wish they would just clean it all up. That would be good,” said neighbor Otis Littlejohn.

“You want to sit out in your porch and enjoy the weather, but with these guys hustling drugs -- they need to get a handle on that stuff,” Wilform said.

The chief said right now, they are still actively searching for several more suspects.
