MATTHEWS, N.C. —

Duke Energy officials are at the scene of a major power outage in Matthews.

Officials said as many as 1,600 customers are without power Thursday morning after a truck clipped a power line on Industrial Drive about 10:25 a.m.

That includes Crestdale Middle School and the Matthews Police Department.

Officers are directing traffic at downtown intersections that are without working signals.

Officials said they expect to repair the lines by early afternoon.

CMS said operations at Crestdale Middle School remain normal.
