GASTON COUNTY, N.C. —
Two mobile homes in Gaston County were damaged by fire Thursday night and police said the fires were intentionally set.
Firefighters were called to one fire around 3 a.m. at the Azalea Mobile Home Park on Andrews Circle and that's when they noticed another home on fire around the corner. Multiple fire units were dispatched.
Both homes were vacant and have no electricity running to them.
Neighbors said they have had recent problems of break-ins in the area and they think they might be related to the fires.
"Please stop. Leave us alone out here," said resident Chastity Sweeten. "We are scared. We could be next."
Police said there have only been three crimes in the last four months reported in the community. Only one of the crimes was a break-in, police said.
Investigators have not said how the fire was started, but they did say they are concerned about having an arsonist on the loose.
Some neighbors said they think more has to be done immediately, adding that they are interested in forming their own community watch program.
