Five people were shot early Saturday morning at a party on William Reynolds Drive in the Hickory Grove neighborhood in east Charlotte, according to police.
One victim is at Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The other four are expected to be OK.
Eyewitness News saw several people Saturday come back to the house where someone brought a gun to a birthday party.
"Somebody shot the gun, and I see the noise, everybody going. Some people cry, but I'm not sure what happened," neighbor Marcus Gonzalez said. He lives just down the street from the home in the 7300 block.
Gonzalez knew there was party, but didn't expect to see the street lined with cars. He never thought the party would turn violent.
"I'm surprised 'cause this neighborhood is very quiet," Gonzalez said.
A source told Eyewitness News the private birthday party turned public when people who were not invited started showing up. The source said shots were fired at the home's door, and the people who were standing nearby were struck.
Police are investigating what led up to the shooting. They say there was some type of disturbance in the front yard before the shots were fired.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Detective Hoppe is the lead detective assigned to the case.
