RALEIGH, N.C. —
The truck driver who killed a high-ranking North Carolina official has been charged in the crash.
Police said 49-year-old Steve Jordan was riding his bike when a logging truck hit him Wednesday.
Jordan was the head of North Carolina’s mental health division as well as a husband and father of three boys.
His pastor said he Jordan was also active in the church.
“Steve did what he said. He loved his wife. He loved his sons to the point he would invest in their lives,” said Wake Cross Roads Church Pastor Bill Bowyer.
On Thursday, officials charged 28-year-old Clifton Ellis with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
Ellis told police he was trying to pass Jordan when the accident happened.
