CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Groupons and Living Social can provide get great deals but make sure you know what's expected of you.

A woman was hit with a $100 bill even though she thought she followed all the rules.

Adrian Howe saw the Living Social coupon two months at Gold's Gym for just $28.

"Just wanted to be healthy," Howe said.

She signed up for the deal that would roll into a one-year membership.

But when the 12 months were up, the gym said she still had two months to go and owed $110 for them.

"I think it is not fair and, yes, that is a good bit of money," Howe said.

Gold's sent Action 9 a letter explaining it only counts months members pay full price so Howe's first two -- the ones with the coupon-- didn't count.

It even accused her of trying to weasel out of her obligation.

“That's just not good business,” Howe said. “That is not how you should treat your customers."

The Better Business Bureau says read the fine print.

Gold’s Gym even highlighted part of the contract to show where Howe went wrong.

While it does say the deal rolls over into "a 12 full-payment contract" it does not go out of its way to explain any month you pay less doesn't count towards the 12 months.

Howe paid up so she wouldn't be in the wrong but thinks the gym pulled a fast one.

The BBB said when you use Groupon or Living Social, make sure you know any catches.

Ask what happens if the business goes out of business before you can use the coupon.

Also ask if you'll get to use the deal right away. Sometimes, so many people get the same the coupon the business will be too busy for you to go soon.
