Otis Westmoreland wants to unload his $28,000 timeshare in South Carolina, so when a representative from a Florida timeshare resale company told him they had a buyer willing to pay $25,000, he agreed."So in my mind, I'm believing this is legit," he said. The reseller is National Financial Services of Orlando. Westmoreland said before they would complete the deal, he was told he'd have to pay them more than $3,100 in closing costs and taxes. After that, he said he never heard from the National Financial Services representative again."It’s like the lady fell off the planet. We would call and call," Westmoreland said.So Action 9 tried calling the Florida company and checked with the Better Business Bureau and discovered National Financial Services has an F rating and no license to resell timeshares.BBB President Tom Bartholomy said any timeshare reseller requiring upfront fees should raise a red flag."You’ve got to step back from that and say, ‘Wow, just who am I dealing with here, and exactly what am I doing?’" Bartholomy said. The BBB said it's virtually impossible to resell timeshares, so if any company says they can sell yours, the BBB said beware. It's a lesson Westmoreland learned the hard way.
