ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. —
This week the adoptive parents of a missing Rowan County teen will be in court on a custody matter. On Friday, Erica Parsons' parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons were served with a civil summons from the Department of Social Services. The DSS granted temporary custody of the Parsons' youngest children to Casey Parson's mother after Erica was reported missing a few weeks ago.Her disappearance went unreported for almost two years. The Parsons claim they thought she was in Asheville the whole time.Investigators said that is not true. Last week, investigators combed the Salisbury home where Erica lived before she disappeared.Search warrants show they took carpet pieces, drywall from closets with red stains, knives as well as cameras, phones and even Jon Benet Ramsey magazines. Erica's disappearance is gaining national attention. This week, her adoptive parents will appear on a two-part special on Dr. Phil. You can watch that interview on Channel 9 Tuesday and Wednesday at 4 p.m., followed by Eyewitness News at 5 p.m.
