Since 1947, the Carolinas Carrousel Parade in uptown Charlotte has been a Thanksgiving Day tradition.
The parade bills itself as the fourth-largest in the nation, with an estimated 100,000 spectators. But event organizers say it will soon become a memory.
The parade's executive director, Linda Healy Vespa, began cleaning out her office Tuesday. The nonprofit Carolinas Carrousel Inc. was not able to find a title sponsor this year after its three-year contract with Belk came to an end.
Healy Vespa said they need at least $75,000 to keep the parade going, which also gives scholarships to local high school seniors.
"We just have not had the luck in finding anybody to step up to take on the parade," she said.
Anyone who would like to offer support to the Carrousel Parade and the Carrousel Scholarship Program through sponsorships or financial contributions to Carolinas' Carrousel, Inc. should contact the Carrousel office at 704-525-0250 or email@example.com.
